GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off three new trains from Guwahati Railway Station in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma besides virtually dedicating a road over-bridge built in Tetelia at the same venue.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Achary, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, other cabinet ministers, MPs and MLAs were also present on the occasion.
The three new trains are Guwahati–New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, New Bongaigaon–Guwahati Passenger Train and the Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express which will help in movement of train passengers between the two states.
Vaishnaw, who also holds the Information & Broadcasting portfolio, virtually inaugurated a 10 KW FM transmitter of Akashvani Kokrajhar which will benefit more than 30 lakh people living in Kokrajhar Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang districts.
He also reviewed progress of ongoing projects of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and stressed the need for their timely completion.
The Union Minister also inaugurated the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) besides also paying a visit to the under-construction Tata Semiconductor project site at Jagiroad.
