GUWAHATI: Gaurisagar Police in Sivasagar district arrested newly-floated political party Raijor Dal’s State Convenor Manuj Gogoi on Sunday night. Police also arrested three other associates of Gogoi for allegedly threatening and abusing truckers at Gaurisagar.

According to an FIR filed at Gaurisagar Police Station, Raijor Dal Convenor Manuj Gogoi along with Udipta Bora, Parag Borgohain and Bidyut Chetia stopped a truck and threatened the truckers. Following the FIR, police arrested Gogoi and his three associates on Sunday night. Manuj Gogoi is also an advisor of Asompremi Yuba Chatra Samaj.

He was given the responsibility of the Convenor for the Raijor Dal, the new political outfit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have been criticising Raijor Dal and newly-formed Asom Jatiyo Parishad (AJP) since their inception.

Taking a dig at the new political parties, AGP president and minister Atul Bora said that the two political parties can’t cause losses to the AGP.

“They can’t cause losses to us. We will be benefited whether they fight together or separately,” Bora said.

On the other hand, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said that his party is in touch with AJP and Raijor Dal leadership to bring them under the ‘Grand Alliance’ initiated by the Congress.

“Congress will keep trying to bring them with us till the last minute. Our doors are open for the last moment. Because, it is the need of the hour,” Bora said at Silchar on Sunday.
