GUWAHATI, Feb 28: A 36-year-old history sheeter who allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a bus at Swargate bus station in Pune on Tuesday morning was arrested in Shirur on Friday, police said.
“Accused Dattatray Ramdas Gade has been formally arrested”, Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Smartana Patil, Zone 2, Pune City Police, said.
Police had launched a massive hunt for the accused, and had deployed drones and 13 police teams to nab him. Reports said a relative alerted cops after he came to their house on Thursday night.
Gade was arrested around 1:30 am from his native village of Gunat in Shirur under Pune district when he was reportedly hiding in a sugarcane field.
The accused is a known history-sheeter who is out on bail in a robbery case since 2019 has multiple criminal cases registered against him.
He had raped the woman around 5:45 am on Tuesday when she came to the bus station to board a bus to Phaltan in Satara district. Gade, after entering into a conversation with the victim, took her to an empty bus where he reportedly raped her.
