Pugilist Abhijit Baruah wins first professional bout, becomes 1st Assamese to do so

Guwahati: In a proud moment for Assam, Abhijit Baruah the first professional boxer in the state has won a tournament organised by World Boxing Council and World Boxing Federation.

Notably, Abhijit Baruah hailing from Assam’s Jorhat has won in the 67-kilogram category of the tournament beating Hritesh Kasaan of Delhi by knock out.

Talking to the media, Abhijit Baruah thanked the people of Assam and Jorhat in particular for their support besides seeking blessings for his next match at Mumbai.

Baruah said, “It had always been my ambition to build a name for myself in professional boxing. Today, I put out a strong effort and was rewarded for my efforts.”

Baruah also thanked his coach for inspiring him.
