The Supreme Court Wednesday (July 11) took strong exception to pollution affecting the Taj Mahal and chagrined the Ministry of Environment and Forest for failing to protect it from pollution.
“Either we will shut down the Taj or you demolish or restore it,” the court is learnt to have stated.
The apex court said protecting the Taj Mahal — one of the Seven Wonders of the World — had become a “hopeless cause” and that it will now hold daily hearings from July 31 on how to protect the monument from pollution.
It also ordered the formation of a special committee to find the source of pollution in and around the Taj Mahal in Agra and suggest measures to prevent it, news agency PTI reported.
