GUWAHATI: Centre has started to frame rules and provisions for the implementation of the Amended Citizenship Act, 2019. Assam government has also submitted some proposals to the centre, informed Assam health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi on Thursday Dr. Sarma said, “The process of discussion and consultation already started. State government has informally and formally informed Ministry of Home Affairs about the rules to be incorporated. After the publication of rules, there will be no confusion regarding the number of people who will get citizenship under this act. People will have a clear idea that the number will not exceed 3-5 lakh.”
Dr. Sarma further said that a clear picture will emerge after the application process begins.
It needs to be mentioned that Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met union home minister Amit Shah at his North Block office in New Delhi during the signing of an agreement to settle the issue of Bru refugees.
