GUWAHATI, Oct 24: Guwahati City Police achieved a major shot in its arm when a joint team of Dispur and Hatigaon Police arrested a seven-member gang of dreaded dacoits who were creating a reign of terror in various parts of the city.
The robbers were arrested from various parts of Dhubri district.
The arrested dacoits have been identified as Abdur Rezzak, Basha Sheikh, Habej Ali, Kajimuddin Pradhani, Mohidul Islam, Sahidul Bhuyan and Sukur Ali.
The dacoits were involved in the recent daredevil dacoity at Dwaraka Nagar in Down Town locality of the city where they entered the house of a person named Pankaj Das on Oct 5 and looted, cash, jeweller and other valuables after tying the hands and feet of the residents and threatening them with sharp weapons.
Gold ornaments worth around Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4.60 lakh in cash, sharp weapons, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones and around 110 old coins, presumed to have been stolen from temples, were recovered from their possession.
