Prize catch! Assam Police arrest on-the-run ABT-JAM operative in Kokrajhar

GUWAHATI, Feb 4: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police have arrested a key operative of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jammat-ul-Mujahideen (JAM) from Kokrajhar district early Monday morning, Assam Police stated today.

The arrested operative has been identified as Nasim Uddin SK who was on the run since the arrest of another key jehadi named Nur Islam Mandal.

Mandal, police said, is a prime accused in terror-related cases in Kokrajhar.

The arrest was made during the ongoing ‘Operation PRAGHAT’, which was launched in December to dismantle fundamentalist networks across the country.

The accused had been evading police since Dec 17 and was on the run before his arrest on Monday morning.

Investigations have revealed that the arrested operative was a key conspirator, working closely with Nur Islam Mandal in acquiring weapons and manufacturing of IEDs intended to arm and empower extremist factions.

His arrest, police said, marks another critical step in dismantling the growing nexus of radical elements who seek to create unrest and jeopardize the integrity of the nation.

The ABT-JAM operative was arrested in connection with STF PS Case No. 21/2024 under Sections 61(2)/147/148/149 of the IPC, R/W Sections 10/13/16/18/18B/20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, R/W Section 12(1)(a) of the Passport Act, 1967, Added Section 38/39 of the UA(P) Act, Sections 4/5 of the Explosive Act, Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act, and Sections 13/14 of the Foreigners Act.

He has been remanded to seven-day police custody after he was produced in court.
