Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Badruddin Ajmal Sunday confirmed that his party will vote for Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election to be held tomorrow (July 18).
Backing IAS-turned-politician Sinha who was the Union Finance and External Affairs Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet, AIUDF named MLAs Aminul Islam and Majibur Rahman as the party’s agents for the presidential poll.
“Yashwant Sinha is not just a Congress-backed candidate. We will also support him in tomorrow’s elections. We on behalf of the AIUDF party urge every Congress MLA to vote in favour of Sinha tomorrow,” Aminul Islam said in Guwahati today.
The AIUDF, meanwhile, continued to take potshots at the Assam Congress claiming that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) did not invite it to Sinha’s presidential election campaign when he had visited the State to drum up support ahead of the elections.
Opposition-backed Sinha is pitted against tribal leader Draupadi Murmu in the race to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
