President Ram Nath Kovind to be on 3 day tour of Assam from tomorrow

Guwahati: President Ram Nath Kovind is all set to arrive in Assam tomorrow on a three-day visit. President Kovind will be arriving in Guwahati tomorrow and will be paying obesiance at the revered Kamakhya Temple.

Later in the evening, President Kovind would be kick-starting the celebrations to mark the 400th bith anniversary celebrations of the legendary Ahom general, Lachit Barphukan.

During the course of his three-day visit, the President is also scheduled to visit the Kaziranga National Park and attend the convocation ceremony at Tezpur University.

In view of the President’s arrival tomorrow, large-scale preparations have been made in Guwahati. Some major road links within the city would be closed for the smooth movement of the President’s cavalcade.

With several flyovers still under construction in the city, several roads will be cordoned off on February 25 and 26. Several arterial roads in the city, like AT Road, MG Road, B Baruah Road, Panjabari Road, and Srimanta Sankardev Road, will be closed tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The movement of heavy vehicles would also be restricted between 12:15 and 1:40 pm.

On the other hand, the road connecting Six Mile to Khanapara and the Panjabari road would be closed from 5 pm to 6:46 pm. Meanwhile, the Maligaon-Pandu road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The administration has called for people to not take these routes tomorrow and instead take other routes to commute in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has also appealed to the citizens of Guwahati to keep the city clean, keeping in mind the President’s visit.
