Premier League: Arsenal down Tottenham 2-1 in North London derby; Liverpool, Manchester City held

GUWAHATI, Jan 16: Arsenal came from a goal behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 in the north London derby on Wednesday as Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said his team is back in the Premier League title race.

The gunners made a spirited fightback after Son Heung-min’s early opener as Dominic Solanke’s own goal pulled Arsenal on level terms before Leandro Trossard’s inner late in the first half gave them three vital points at the Emirates Stadium and reduced the gap with Liverpool, who drew with Nottingham Forest, to four points.

Diogo Jotta, on the other hand, saved Liverpool from the ignominy of suffering successive league defeats at the hands of Nottingham Forest as his 66th-minute equaliser salvaged a draw for the league leaders after Chris Wood’s eighth-minute strike had put Forest in front.

Manchester City were unlucky not to walk away with all three points after their visit to Brentford as Christian Norgaard’s injury time header ensured that the points were shared at the GTECH Community Stadium.

Newcastle United, meanwhile, climbed to fourth after beating Wolves 3-0. Aleksander Issak scored for the eight consecutive time in a premier league match as his brace and a third from Anthony Gordon ensured all three points for the Magpies.
