GUWAHATI: Congress MLA from Mariani, Rupjyoti Kurmi has stated that either Lok Sabha MP from Nagaon, Pradyut Bordoloi or senior Congressman, Bhupen Bora may be picked as the next president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). The present president, Ripun Bora tendered his resignation from the top post owning responsibility after the party’s dismal performance in the recently held Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2021. The Congress is yet to decide on the next APCC president.
Talking to reporters Rupjyoti Kurmi said that he was also a contender for the state party president post but due to his features and his background he won’t get the post. “I know that they won’t give me as I am dark in colour and come from the tea gardens. Maybe, because I talk too openly on issues. Also, they won’t make Abdul Khaleque (Barpeta MP) as he represents the minority community. If they are going to select someone it will be either Pradyut Bordoloi or Bhupen Bora. I don’t think there are chances of Debabrata Saikia as he is already the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. One person cannot be given too many posts,” commented the three-time Mariani MLA.
“I have also heard that senior Congress leader Rockybul Hussain is trying his best to get the post so that he can lay claim to the CM’s post in 2026 if the party succeeds. Congress is surviving in Assam due to his efforts.” said Rupjyoti Kurmi.
