Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Assam’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Changsari on April 14, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Thursday.
Sarma visited the site along with the other officials to review preparations for the inaugural ceremony.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “It’s our great privilege that Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji will soon inaugurate AIIMS Changsari, which will give a huge boost to healthcare in North East. Reviewed status of its various infrastructure facilities including OPD, auditorium, waste disposal & connecting roads.”
“At least 90 percent of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) construction is complete,” Sarma said.

He further informed that 18 departments, including the Out Patient Department (OPD), are almost ready to open. Of the 750 beds in the hospital, 150 beds have been set up so far, he added.
On March 3, Health minister Keshab Mahanta and chief secretary Paban Kumar Barthakur reviewed the work of the medical institution with top officials of AIIMS and Kamrup district administration.
The minister and the chief secretary directed the officials to complete the work by March 31, 2023.
In December 2022, the chief minister announced that the AIIMS, Guwahati will be officially inaugurated this year.
On March 11 too, the official said that a cancer research facility, touted to be the largest in south Asia, will soon be set up at Amingaon in Assam’s Kamrup Rural district, with the state government having already earmarked a plot for the project. The advanced research centre will make Assam the flagbearer of northeastern states on the global map of research hubs, official said.
Experts had on Friday deliberated on the roadmap and operational design of the project at a workshop held here, under the aegis of the state government’s Medical Education and Research Department.
