PM Modi conferred with Guyana’s highest civilian honour for ‘impressive and visionary leadership’

GUWAHATI, Nov 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Guyana‘s highest civilian honour — the Order of Excellence — “for his impressive and visionary leadership.”

During a special ceremony in capital Georgetown on Thursday, President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, conferred the award on the Indian Prime Minister.

President Ali, in his address, hailed Prime Minister Modi as “a champion among leaders,” and said the award was bestowed on PM Modi “for his impressive and visionary leadership that has impacted the course of developing the world”.

“I am deeply honoured to be here today. Prime Minister Modi, you are a champion among leaders. You have shown light to the developing world, creating development frameworks and metrics that many countries, including Guyana, are adopting,” President Ali remarked.

While accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the honour to the people of India and to the deep-rooted historical ties between the people of the two countries. He emphasized that his State visit is testament to India’s continued commitment towards deepening India-Guyana friendship.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is only the fourth foreign leader to be conferred with the highest national award of Guyana.
