GUWAHATI: “Many workers of Bharatiya Janata Party faced threats and intimidation over the past few days.  But people of Assam will give befitting reply to those perpetrators in 2021 by electing the BJP government again. We live with the blessings of the 3 crore people of Assam, like we live with the light of the sun and moon,” said senior BJP leader and Assam health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in his address to party workers at the BJP mega rally, held today at Khanapara, Guwahati.

He also said that people of Assam would present 100 seats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next assembly election.

With the reference of violent protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Assam, Dr. Sarma asked the agitators to learn the lesson of peaceful and democratic movement from Assam agitation.

“We don’t oppose the democratic movement launched by AASU. But if someone is dreaming to become CM, to form a political party in the name of agitation, BJP will challenge it politically,” said the senior BJP leader.

Dr. Sarma criticised former AASU president and former chief minister of Assam, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta for accepting the deadline of 1971 instead of 1951 to determine the foreigners according to the Assam Accord.

The Assam minister also lashed out at AASU Chief Advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya for not protesting when the Citizenship Act was amended during former PM Rajiv Gandhi and former CM Prafulla Mahanta’s regime.

Paying his tribute to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Dr. Sarma stated, “It was our leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee who restored the soul of the Assam Accord.”

Hitting out at Congress, NEDA Convenor Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Congress leaders are opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act because Muslims are not included in the legislation.

“Muslims in the country will not lose their citizenship because of the act,” he assured.

“We believe that after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, not a single foreigner could enter India through Indo-Bangladesh border. We believe that after Sonowal became chief minister of Assam, not a single foreigner could infiltrate to Assam,” said Dr. Sarma reaffirming BJP’s commitment against the Bangladeshi infiltration issue in the country as well as Assam.

The senior BJP leader also announced that after 2014, not a single illegal migrant would come to Assam and BJP government would take necessary steps against infiltration.

“In last three-and-a-half years, BJP-led government has done tremendous developmental works in Assam. People of Assam never witnessing the Ganga of development that is flowing in the state now,” Sarma further said.

Launching scathing attack on All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “BJP will fight against people like Badaruddin Ajmal till our last blood. We have taken resolution that we will save Assam from Ajmal.”
