GUWAHATI, Jan 14: People across Assam are celebrating Bhogali or Magh Bihu, the harvest festival of the State, with much fanfare and enthusiasm.
After the Uruka feast on Monday night, people lit ‘meji’s — the traditional bonfire made with wood and stray, this morning.
Besides thanking the almighty for a bountiful harvest, people prayed for peace and well-being of their families and loved ones.
Community breakfasts with Bihu delicacies like laru-pitha, doi-sira were organized as people visited friends, relatives and near and dear ones.
Traditional games and sports are also being organized at various places with people taking part in them.

Meanwhile President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and several other political leaders wished the people on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.
