Passport Verification Will Be Completed Within 30 Days: Assam CM

Guwahati: On Tuesday 23 November, Assam Chief Minister  Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that Assam Police have to complete the process of verification of passport within 30 days.

 The chief minister took part in a day long deliberation at Assam Police headquarters in Guwahati with top officials.

CM Sarma said that during the meeting, decision was taken for quick completion and disposal of reports and passport verification.

“We want to dispose the postmortem reports, accident reports and passport verification reports on a time bound basis. State police has been asked to complete passport verification requests within 30 days,” the CM said.

The chief minister also informed that the state police would start recruitment of around 6000 posts within next week.

“We wanted to fill around 16,000 posts in Assam police by May next year but it won’t be possible. However, recruitment for 6000 posts including for five commando battalion will be done soon,” he added.

During the meeting, the CM has discussed on modernisation of the police force, improving conviction rate, case disposal, expedient public service delivery, responsive and sensitive policing, efficient intelligence gathering are on the agenda, among other important issues.

“Assam police has been asked to follow the Supreme Court ruling and to register a FIR after completing its preliminary enquiry within 24 hours. Necessary amendments will be done to Assam police accountability commission too,” the CM said.
