Parimal Suklabaidya rushes to spot in Nagaon where 18 elephants died

Guwahati: Assam Environment & Forests, Fisheries, Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Friday visited the spot in Kothiatoli, Nagaon where 18 elephants succumbed to death.

The incident happened on Wednesday night at a hill in the Kundoli proposed reserve forest in the Kathiatoli range, informed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Amit Sahay. 

The preliminary investigation found that the jumbos were killed due to electrocution caused by lightning last night, but the exact reason will be known only after post- mortem. 

Forest Minister Suklabaidya appointed K.K. Deori, AFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Wildlife & Chief Wildlife Warden and a team to carry out an investigation investigation into the  death of the wild elephants.

On Thursday taking to his Twitter Suklabaidya wrote, “Deeply pained by the death of 18 elephants last night due to massive thunderstorm under Kothiatoli Range in Nagaon. I shall be visiting the site tomorrow morning along with PCCF(wildlife) & senior officials to take stock of the situation as directed by HCM Dr.@himantabiswa”
