Parents who abandoned specially-able minor son at Goalpara bridge arrested, sent to 3-day police custody

The parents of the six-year-old specially-able boy recovered from a bridge near Dhanubhanga in Goalpara district have been arrested by Dhupdhara police for abandoning their child. The parent duo was detained by Basistha Police yesterday (June 19) evening and taken to Dhupdhara where they were formally arrested.

Silshar Roy and his wife were produced in court and have been remanded to police custody for three days.

Silshar and his wife, originally hailing from Bihar and presently residing in Ghoramora locality of Guwahati, had taken their specially-able son to Dhanubhanga and abandoned the minor at the bridge. The inhuman parent duo then returned to Guwahati while people who saw the boy under the bridge crying inconsolably informed police.

The heartless parents who are facing a lot of flak for abandoning their own son for being specially-able said they were “fed up” with their life since their son had to be attended to all the time and cried all the time.

“We regret our action. But it was getting unbearable for us. He used to cry all the time and had to be tended to. We contacted many NGOs but nobody was willing to keep him in their shelter homes,” the father told News Live.

The minor boy was taken to a children’s home for specially-able kids in Nalbari.

Meanwhile, Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Nath termed the incident inhuman and shocking and that law will take its own course.
