The stage is all set for the second and last phase of panchayat elections in the remaining 10 districts of Assam. Voting will be held on Sunday (Dec 9). Campaigning for Sunday’s elections ended at 4pm today (Dec 7) with all the star campaigners, including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing campaign rallies for their party candidates.
While Chief Minister Sonowal addressed four poll rallies in Nalbari and Barpeta districts, asking people to extend their support to BJP candidates, Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed election rallies at Agia in Goalpara district and in Bongaigaon as he continued to accuse the AGP, Congress and AIUDF of stitching an unholy alliance with the only intention of defeating the BJP in the elections.
AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, on the other hand, addressed a rally at Hojai.
Meanwhile, re-elections were also held in several polling stations across the State where anomalies were reported during the first phase of voting on Wednesday (Dec 5).
Re-poll, if required after the second phase of elections, will be held on Dec 11 while counting of votes will begin at 8pm on Dec 12.
