BSF guards shot dead a Pakistani intruder along the international border in Punjab in the early morning hours of Thursday.

BSF personnel, reports said, observed the individual crossing the international border in Punjab’s Firozpur sector close to the Lakha Singh Wala BSF post at around 2:30 am. Despite being challenged, the intruder continued to advance, prompting the BSF to open fire, resulting in his death on the spot, reports further said.

He was found crossing the international border purposefully in the dark, media reports added.

The body of the Pakistani intruder has been handed over to Punjab police.

The identity of the intruder has not yet been confirmed, but investigations are ongoing to determine any potential links to terrorist organizations or espionage activities.

The incident comes amid the Operation Sindoor in which Indian forces targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) killing over 100 terrorists.

The operation was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which had claimed 26 lives, including 25 Hindu tourists.

The BSF has intensified security measures along the Border with Pakistan, increasing surveillance to foil attempts to infiltrate into India.
