Pahalgam killings ~ Three held in Assam for objectionable social media rant: At least three persons have been held by police for making objectionable statements on social media over the Pahalgam attack.

Cachar Police held a student of Assam University, Silchar, for posting derogatory statements on social media regarding the senseless killings of Hindu tourists.

The student, identified as AK Bahauddin Choudhary, reportedly made controversial and highly communal and insensitive statements over the killings.

He was held from the university campus after an FIR was registered at the Assam University Police Outpost yesterday (April 24).

Police is presently interrogating him.

Morigaon Police, on the other hand, arrested a person named Majahar Miya, a Muslim cleric and a resident of Ward No. 4 of Moirabari town, for supporting the dastardly killings and writing “good job” in a socia media post. He was arrested after a case was lodged at Moirabari Police Station (Case No. 74/25 U/S 152/196/197(1)/113(3)/352/353 BNS 2023).

Another person named Mohammad Jabir Hussain, a media person working with a local newspaper published from Silchar, was held after he made some objectionable and insensitive statements in social media linking the Pahalgam killings with the recent Waqf Amendment Act and blaming the central government and the Supreme Court for the mayhem in Pahalgam.

The arrests came after Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had on Thursday (April 24) cautioned people against making anti-India comments and said that Assam Police have been instructed to take strict action against anyone making such offensive and insensitive statements.
