A total of Rs 47.91 lakh was seized from various areas of Assam, police sources said on Saturday.
In the first incident, Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized Rs 22 lakh from a person in Bihaguri area of Tezpur on Friday.
The person claimed that the money was meant workers of Mazbat Tea Estate, a police officer said, adding that the management of the tea garden has been asked to produce relevant documents for claiming the money back.
In another incident on Friday, a static surveillance team (SST) seized Rs 20.71 lakh from a biker in Sonitpur district during regular checking of vehicles, police sources said on Saturday.
The team seized the money on Friday when vehicles were being checked at Tumuki near Tezpur Medical College, the sources said.
According to the biker, the money belonged to a microfinance company and he was on his way to deposit the money in a bank, they said.
The seized money was counted in presence of a magistrate and sent to the treasury office in Tezpur since the person carrying the money could not produce any valid documents, a police officer said.
The owner of the microfinance company has been asked to produce relevant documents in order to claim his money, the police officer said.
A total of Rs 5.20 lakh was also seized from three areas of the State the same day. (PTI)
