GUWAHATI: The financial help under the Assam government’s flagship ‘Orunodoi’ scheme will be increased to Rs. 3 thousand per month from existing Rs. 830, said finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday.
Addressing an election rally in Behali in favour of BJP candidate Ranjit Dutta, the senior BJP leader and NEDA convenor said, “ 8 lakh more women will be covered under the Orunodoi scheme. I would like to promise you gradually we will increase the amount to Rs. 3 thousand per month from Rs. 830.”
The Assam government launched its flagship scheme ‘Orunodoi’ on December 1 last year.
The scheme aims at providing monthly financial assistance to marginalised households of Assam for purchasing essential commodities like nutritional items and medicines. It is the largest ever Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme in the state.

The minister also promised that the amount of old-age and widow pensions would also be increased.
Before addressing the mass gathering, Dr. Sarma also took part in a 12-KM long bike rally. The rally witnessed massive responses from the party workers as well as local people.
