Onus on Bangladesh Govt to provide security to Hindus, says Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI, Dec 1: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himnata Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the onus and duty is on the interim Bangladesh government to provide security to Hindus living in the neighbouring country.

Chief Minister Sarma, who inaugurated the newly-built court building of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate at Lakhipur in Cachar district, said attrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh is a cause for concern and that it is the duty of the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government to provide security to the Hindu community.

Chief Minister Sarma’s statements come in the wake of the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former ISKCON member of Bangladesh, in connection with a sedition case while two more Hindu priests were also sent behind bars.

Three Hindu temples were also reportedly vandalised in Chattogram, reports said.

The Assam Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been monitoring the situation, will ensure that Hindus of Bangladesh are provided security by the interim government.
