ONGC abduction case: 14 ULFA (I) linkmen, sympathisers arrested

GUWAHATI: Assam Police arrested 14 alleged linkmen and sympathisers of United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent in connection with the abduction of 3 employees of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) from a rig site at Lakwa in Sivasagar district.

“…police has arrested 14 (fourteen) numbers of linkmen and sympathizers of ULFA (I) who were helping the banned outfit directly or indirectly,” Assam Police said in a statement on Friday.

On April 21 midnight, a group of 5 suspected ULFA (I) militants abducted three ONGC employees— Mohini Mohan Gogoi, Ritul Saikia and Alakesh Saikia from a work over rig site (ROM-100 III) of ONGC.

“Five militants came to the site and kidnapped the ONGC staff in an Ambulance kept in the site. They were driven to No. 5 Bakupukhuri near Charaideo T.E. under Mathurapur PS from where the kidnapped persons alongwith 2 kidnappers moved towards the hillside of Nagaland (Mon district of Nagaland),” police stated.

Meanwhile, Assam Police claimed the kidnapping was done under the command of ULFA (I) SS Maj Ganesh Lahon alias Purna Lahon and his accomplishes— Aidyaman Asom alias Moniram Borgohain and Pradip Gogoi alias Akon.

“Assam Police has received specific information that the kidnapping is done by the ULFA (1) under command of SS Maj Ganesh Lahon @ Purna Lahon and his accomplices namely, Aidyaman Asom @ Moniram Borgohain and Pradip Gogoi @ Akon. Assam Police has been making utmost effort to recover the kidnapped persons without any harm to them,” the statement read.
