One month in office: Himanta Biswa Sarma Govt focuses on curbing drug menace

GUWAHATI: Right after assuming power, the Assam Government led by chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a war on drug menace.

In the last one month, Assam Police made several breakthroughs in its fight against drugs.

Speaking on his government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs, CM Sarma on Thursday said over the last 30 days, substances worth Rs Rs 23.8 crore have been seized.

 “According to NDPS calculations, in the last one month, heroin worth Rs 7 crore, 98 lakh and 68 thousand have been seized. We have seized cannabis of Rs 6 crore, 10 lakh, 39 thousand and 49 have been seized. Tablets of Rs 9 crore, 2 lakh and 60 thousand, morphine of Rs 50 thousand, cough syrups of 38 lakh, 68 thousand, five hundred, opium of 11 lakh, 7 thousand and 500 as well as poppy straw of 18 lakh, 45 thousand have been seized till today,” said Sarma.
