Guwahati: One person has been arrested in Assam over allegations of having connections with Maoists.

The person identified as Hriday Kalita has been arrested by the crime branch from the Amtola Satra village in Kamrup district.

The crime branch team from Guwahati arrested the youth from his house. Currently, he is still in police custody as his interrogation is underway.

This arrest comes in right after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday said that there is a resurgence of Maoists in the state.

CM Sarma said that a 3rd wave of Maoist threats was witnessed in the state prompting security agencies to swing into action to tackle the menace.

While referring to the arrest of Maoist Central Committee leader Kanchan, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state security agencies have already neutralized such elements.

CM Sarma affirmed that the NIA is working in close tandem with other security agencies to neturalize the rest of such Maoist network.
