On Vijaya Dashami, devotees bid teary farewell to Maa Durga; Dussehra celebrations also kick off

GUWAHATI, Oct 12: Durga Puja festivities culminated on Vijaya Dashami today with idols of the Goddess along with the other dieties being taken for immersion in various rivers and waterbodies across Assam and the rest of the country.

Although the festivities turned out to a four-day affair this year and not five days, many puja pandals have decided to not immerse the idols today while others are continuing with the tradion of immersing idols on the day of Vijaya Dashami.

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been put in place across Assam for immersion of idols with river banks readied for the occasion.

On the other hand, the festival of Dussehra is also being celebrated today with large effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran being set on fire to celebrate Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana and the triumph of good over evil.
