GUWAHATI: The Assam Transport Department on Thursday evening launched a drive against drunk driving in the ABC area of Guwahati.
Assam Police and Excise department officials along with Transport department officials took part in the massive drive.
“Every year a huge number of lives are lost on road accidents due to drunken driving especially on the eve of New Year,” Gautam Das, DTO Kamrup wrote on Facebook.

The drive was against people driving their vehicles after consuming alcohol across the city. Assam Police personnel, equipped with breath analyzers checked people travelling through the G.S Road. Along with that, the transport department officials also distributed brochures educating people regarding rash driving, road safety and drunken driving.
The Kamrup Metro DTO (District Transport Officer) has appealed to the people to avoid driving in a drunken state.
“Today is the last day of 2020 and there is an allegation that the highest number of road accidents happen in this day. So, we have organized this massive drive to stop drunk people from roaming around the city. We along with the District Administration, Assam Police, Excise Department have come together and organized this drive. We are also looking forward to a safe and accident-free 2021. So, we are also educating people regarding safe driving,” said District Transport Officer (Registration & Licencing) Kamrup Metro, Gautam Das.
