Olympic medalist PV Sindhu wins Syed Modi International title

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Indian badminton player PV Sindhu won her second women’s singles title at the Syed Modi International badminton tournament defeating young compatriot Malvika Bansod in straight games in Lucknow on Sunday.

Top seed Sindhu breezed past Bansod 21-13 21-16 in a lopsided title match, despite playing in a depleted field due to multiple Covid-19 cases. The final lasted just 35 minutes.

It was Sindhu’s second Syed Modi title, following her annexation of the BWF World Tour Super 300 event in 2017.

The two-time Olympic medalist’s victory in Lucknow will boost her confidence for the rest of the season, as she looks to win the All England Open before leading India’s campaign at the Commonwealth and Asian Games in 2022.
