The Supreme Court Wednesday set the ball rolling for filing of claims and objections, ruling that claims and objections forms in connection with the NRC update process can be submitted by people whose names have not been included in the final draft from Sep 25. The apex court also favoured a two-month period for submission of claims and objection forms that, in effect, means that the said forms can be submitted within two months from Sep 25.

The apex court stated in its ruling that 10 documents will be considered during the initial two-month period and only after that will the court decide whether the remaining five documents can be used as supporting documents while re-applying for induction into the final and updated citizens’ register.
The two-judge SC bench also fixed Oct 23 as the next day of hearing in the case.
