Guwahati: In a midnight incident, a notorious drug peddler was injured during an encounter with Assam Police in Jorhat on Thursday night.
The injured drug peddler has been identified as Ramesh Basfor alias Posa, who tried to escape from the police custody and was shot in the leg.
Posa was arrested from Dhubri on Wednesday by the Jorhat Police. He was being taken to Jorhat Police station for further investigation when he tried to flee from the custody.
According to Police, Posa tried to escape the custody in Jorhat on the pretext of nature’s call.
The police open fired at Posa and injured his leg.
He is currently admitted in Jorhat Medical College and hospital (JMCH).
It is to be noted that on December 20, Posa was arrested from Jorhat but was able to escape the police custody.
