Will win all five first phase seats, claim Cong & BJP

PUBLISHED:

After voting in five parliamentary constituencies in Assam in the first phase ended, both Congress and the BJP are exuding confidence of winning all five seats. BJP leaders Friday said the wave is in their favour and that people of Assam want to see Narendra Modi become prime minister for the second time.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said people were fed up with the Congress and have voted for BJP and its alliance partner AGP in the first phase. He also added that the BJP-AGP combine will win all five seats that went to vote yesterday while also maintaining that the BJP-led alliance will do well in all the 14 seats.

NEDA convener and Assam Finance, Health & PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also sounded confident about a clean sweep by BJP and AGP candidates in the first phase seats and maintained that the BJP candidates in the four seats of Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur and Lakhimpur will win by a margin of two lakh votes.

The Congress, meanwhile, also claimed that it will win all the five seats that went to polls in the first phase.

Former three-term Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the party was hopeful of doing exceedingly well in the first phase seats and said Congress will win at least eight seats.
