Three AGP ministers formally resign

PUBLISHED:

The three AGP ministers in the Sarbananda Sonowal cabinet today (Jan 9) formally tendered their resignation after meeting the Assam Chief Minister at the latter’s office in Dispur.

AGP president Atul Bora, vice-president Keshab Mahanta and senior party leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury formally resigned, two days after the AGP decided to snap ties with their alliance partners over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill issue.

“We met the chief minister and tendered our resignations. There is no way we could have remained part of the Government afer the BJP decided to go ahead with the legislation and tabled the bill in Parliament,” AGP president Atul Bora said after coming out of the Chief Minister’s office.

AGP leaders, including Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury, then dashed off to the AASU head office, and met with the leadership of the influential students’ body.
