Don’t play politics over Dhola killings, Govt warns TMC

PUBLISHED:

The Assam Government today (Nov 4) reacted to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation’s visit to Dhola where they met family members of the victims, asking them not to play politics in connection with the killings.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said nobody should play politics with the killing of five innocent people at Dhola.

Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjee, in a terse message to the TMC, echoed similar views and warned the party not to play politics with the deaths of innocent people nor vitiate the atmosphere of trust and brotherhood between various communities of the State.

On the other hand, State Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted to the education department first cancelling yesterday’s (Saturday’s) Gunotsav programme and later making a u-turn following an uproar in the media.

He also claimed that the Education department had postponed examinations when a bandh was called in Assam in past years although no hue and cry was made that time. The minister, however, said he opposes bandhs and shutdowns since they have been deemed illegal by Gauhati High Court and asked the media to avoid telecasting any news related to bands.
