Campaigning for 2nd phase poll ends, voting on Thursday

Campaigning for the second phase of elections to be held in 97 constituencies spread over 12 States and a Union Territory ended today. Voting in this phase that included five constituencies of Assam — Autonomous District (Diphu), Silchar, Karimganj, Nowgong and Mangaldoi — will be held on Thursday (April 18).

The BJP’s campaign trail was led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and NEDA convener and State Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the duo continued with their mega campaign, appealing people to support the BJP and its alliance partners in the hustings.

Chief Minister Sonowal continued his campaign in Barak Valley and addressed election rallies at Ratabari, Katigorah and Sonai.

On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed four mega election rallies at Bahjani, Sipajhar, Dalgaon and Kalaigaon under Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency and urged people to vote for BJP candidate Dilip Saikia.

On the other hand, the Congress party also campaigned in the five pol-bound constituencies with former chief minister Tarun Gogoi campaigning for party candidate Pradyut Bordoloi in Nagaon.

Voting in the five Assam constituencies that will go to polls in the second phase will begin from 7 am Thursday and will officially conclude at 5 pm.
