Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes brought to Guwahati

PUBLISHED:

Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass Wednesday (Aug 22) brought the urn containing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes to Guwahati from New Delhi as part of the measures taken up by the BJP to immerse the most-loved former Prime Minister’s ashes in rivers across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah handed over the urns with Vajpayee’s ashes to State party chiefs at an event organized earlier in the morning. Along with other party leaders, the former prime minister’s foster daughter, Namita Kaul Bhattacharya, was present as the urns were handed over.

The BJP has coined the immersion of ashes as “Atal Kalash Yatra” with the party leadership asking all ministers and lawmakers to participate in the Kalash Yatra in their respective States.

Ranjeet Kumar Dass handed the urn containing Vajpayee’s ashes to Chief Minister Sarbannada Sonowal at the LGBI Airport that was taken to the Assam BJP’s office in Hengerabari locality of Guwahati and will be kept at the Karbi Sangha for the night. While a part of the ashes will be taken to Barak Valley tomorrow morning, the urn and the ashes will be taken to the banks of the Brahmaputra at Sukreswar Ghat where they will be immersed at 5 pm.

“We will carry out immersion at the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers at the same time at 5 pm tomorrow,” Dass told News Live.
