No increase in bus fares: Assam CM

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: There will be no increase in bus fares for the moment in Assam. This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.

Replying to reporters’ questions, chief minister Dr. Sarma said that as COVID19 is still affecting the lives of people it would be better to maintain the current bus fares.

“It is not possible to increase the bus fares during COVID19 times. In the future, we will discuss the matter with the operators but for now, there will be no increase in bus fares. I will tell the bus owners that people are passing through a bad phase and people won’t like the increase in fares. So, we should try to move ahead in coordination with the times and let’s watch for a few days and later the government will definitely talk with everyone,” said Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam government has removed restrictions on inter-district travel from 1 September. The travel restrictions for a period of over three months had badly affected the business of bus operators and there has been a demand to increase the fares.
