GUWAHATI: After chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s instruction to take steps to reduce road accidents in the state, Assam transport department on Monday adopted ‘No helmet, no petrol’ policy in Guwahati.
The Kamrup District Road Safety Committee carried out a drive at several petrol pumps in the city to ensure enforcement of road safety rules. The officials debarred the pumps from providing petrol to the riders without helmets.
Several vehicles were also seized for violating traffic rules.
“We have started the awareness campaign of ‘No helmet, no petrol’ policy today so that everyone puts on a helmet,” said district transport officer (DTO) Gautam Das.
