“No Bill Payment, No Electricity” starts in Assam

GUWAHATI: The power department in Assam has started its special mission “No Bill Payment, No Electricity” from Friday. The department is going after those individuals and companies, offices who have not paid their electricity bills for many months. Electricity to these defaulters will be curtailed till the payment is received. 

A list has been readied in Bijuli Bhawan (headquarters) of those who have not paid their electricity bills for a long time. There are many who have not paid for years now and this has resulted in massive losses to the power department.

Earlier, Assam power minister Bimal Borah stated that government departments have pending electricity bills to the tune of Rs. 106 crore. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the electricity department to try to recover all pending bills and had himself visited Bijuli Bhawan last month. The power department is also stressing on a habit of timely payment of bills before 10th every month.
