GUWAHATI, Oct 29: A photographer has been taken into custody by police for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl near the VIP parking lot outside Kamakhya Temple.
The accused has been identified as Nayan Haloi hailing from Mukalmuwa in Nalbari district who used to earn a living taking photographs of devotees and tourists visiting the Shakti shrine.
More shockingly, the accused allegedly committed the crime in the presence of the victim’s mother, a homeless beggar who used to live under the foot over-bridge leading to the shrine.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves among people, took place last night.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Kamakhya police out-post following which an FIR was lodged against the accused.
Meanwhile, a video doing the rounds shows the accused confessing to the crime.
