A four-member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is grilling Hizbul terrorist Qamer-uz-Zaman at Hojai today, and is questioning him in connection with his plans to set up the Pakistani terrorist organization’s base in Assam and the Northeast. Qamer who was arrested in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sep 13 on charges of palnning to carry out terror strikes in the city during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations was brought to Assam by UP Police on transit remand for questioning.
The Hizbul terrorist, who hails from Jamunamukh in Hojai district, is also being questioned by Assam Police to unearth Hizbul Mujahideen’s plans to expand its base in Assam.

He will be interrogated till tomorrow by various teams, including other intelligence agencies, and will be flown back to Uttar Pradesh on Thursday (Oct 11).
Incidentally, Hojai Police have arrested eight accomplices of Qamer-uz-Zaman. Shahnawaz (Shah) Alom, Saiful Islam alias Liton who happens to be Qamer’s brother, Saidul Alom, Baharuddin and Joynaluddin were arrested from Jamunamukh while Omar Farooq — another associate of the Hizbul terrorist — was arrested from Byrnihat in Meghalaya.
Another associate named Riyazuddin was arrested from Kachua in Nagaon district for his links with Qamer. Incidentally, Qamer had stayed at Riyazuddin’s house when he visited Assam in August this year besides also using his motorcycle.
