NIA court acquits Akhil Gogoi in one case

GUWAHATI: Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi was granted bail by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in Guwahati on Tuesday against the case registered at Chabua police station.

Along with Akhil, the NIA court has discharged Jagajit Gohain and Bhupen Gogoi from the case. Bhaskarjyoti Phukan who was also presented in the special NIA court along with the others was framed under IPC sections 144 and 188.

On the other hand, hearing of the case registered at Chandmari Police Station is going on, informed Akhil Gogoi’s advocate.

“Two cases were registered against Akhil Gogoi. One in Chabua PS and another in Chanmari PS. Meanwhile, the Chabua PS case charge hearing is over and they have released an order regarding the same. NIA court has discharged Akhil Gogoi, Jagajit Gohain, Bhupen Gogoi and the charges have been framed against Bhaskarjyoti Phukan. Phukan has been framed under IPC sections 144 and 188 and further court proceedings will continue in the Dibrugarh Court. Also, both the 144 and 188 sections are bailable,” said Akhil Gogoi’s advocate, Krishna Gogoi.

He added, “Now hearing of the case registered at Chandmari Police Station is underway.”
