NF Railway to re-engage retired staff to ensure trained manpower availability

GUWAHATI, Feb 8: Northeast Frontier Railway has taken up a move to re-engage its retired staff on contractual basis in its bid to continuously enhance safety and security across its jurisdiction.

With a significant number of staff members retiring from regular service in the recent past, NF Railways issued a notification to re-engage their on contractual basis for a total of 1,856 posts, NF Railway CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated in a media release.

Non-gazetted employees who retired in Pay Level-1 to Pay Level-9 will be considered for re-engagement subject to condition that such contractual job would be in the same pay level held by the employee at the time of retirement. The re-engagement include 101 positions at Headquarters, 6 in Katihar Division, 69 in Alipurduar Division, 65 in Rangiya Division, 606 in Lumding Division, 778 in Tinsukia Division, 97 in New Bongaigaon Workshop and 134 in Dibrugarh Workshop.

Re-engagement will be carried out for 555 positions in the Engineering Department, 396 in the Signal & Telecom Department, 278 in the Mechanical Department, 198 in the Operating Department and various other departments. The retired employees being re-engaged should not have been covered under the Safety Related Retirement Scheme/Liberalised Active Retirement Scheme for Guaranteed Employment for Safety Staff (LARSGESS).

A selection committee at Unit/Division/Workshop level will be empowered to appoint the retired staff who qualifies certain parameters such as medical fitness, good rating in performance appraisals in the last five years of service etc. While the maximum age would be 65, the re-engaged employees would get a fixed monthly payment equivalent to their last drawn pay minus basic pension during the contract period. As per instructions laid by Railway Board, the re-engagement of retired staff would remain in vogue for an initial period of two years.
