NF Railway said limited train operations in the route began on Sunday (June 29) while full-fledged services resumed today (June 30)
NF Railway has restored train services in the affected stretch in the Jatinga Lumpur-New Haflong section of the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, with limited train operations beginning yesterday (June 29) and full-fledged train services resuming today (June 30), an official statement from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated.
Following the successful restoration of the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, the first empty goods train passed through the section and departed from New Harangajao at 10:21 am on Sunday, marking the resumption of traffic.
The Sealdah-Silchar Kanchenjunga Express, which began its journey on June 28, became the first passenger train to traverse the restored section without any hindrance, the statement stated.
It was followed by the Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express while a special relief train from Rangiya ran successfully and crossed the affected section while travelling towards Agartala, facilitating the movement of stranded passengers and restoring vital connectivity to the region, it added.
NF Railway stated that the section between KM 108/6-8 was severely impacted by multiple earth slips triggered by continuous heavy rainfall on June 22, resulting in major disruptions to both passenger and freight train services.
In order to closely assess the situation and oversee the restoration efforts, NF Railway General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava personally visited the site, reviewed the ongoing work, and motivated the field teams, the statement also said.
Maximum workforce and machinery were deployed under his direction, and NFR teams worked round the clock to clear the debris and restore the track, ensuring rail traffic resumed in under a week, it added.
