NF Railway has deployed stationary watchmen at vulnerable locations, with particular emphasis on critical sections such as Lumding-Badarpur hills section and various locations in Tripura
NF Railway (NFR) has initiated comprehensive measures to maintain uninterrupted and safe train services across the Northeast during the heavy rains. Recognizing the challenges posed by the region’s complex terrain and severe weather conditions, NF Railway has intensified its monitoring and maintenance activities to ensure passenger safety and infrastructure integrity, NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated in a release.
To support its efforts towards addressing track safety and stability during this monsoon, NF Railway has deployed stationary watchmen at all vulnerable locations, with particular emphasis on critical sections such as Lumding-Badarpur hills section and various locations in Tripura.
Regular patrolling is being conducted to monitor track and infrastructure conditions. Senior officials, including the Additional General Manager and Divisional Railway Managers of NF Railway, are personally supervising the situation continuously, the release stated.

Trolley patrolling is being carried out by officers to ensure close monitoring and regular inspections are being undertaken. To further strengthen ground-level vigilance, senior officers have also been deputed in the field to closely monitor vulnerable locations and coordinate prompt responses as needed.
In addition, NF Railway has adopted technological initiatives to address its risks associated with landslides, drainage issues and embankment stability. These include drone-based LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), high-resolution aerial imaging, and electromagnetic surveys over an 80-kilometer stretch of the Lumding-Badarpur hill section.
These technologies facilitate the early detection of underground faults and water-logged areas, enabling preemptive actions to mitigate potential hazards.
Additionally, Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) has been introduced at critical points to enhance tunnel safety and structural monitoring during peak rainfall periods.
NF Railway, the release further stated, remains committed to maintaining safe and reliable rail connectivity in the region despite the challenging weather conditions.
