NF Railway achieves significant progress in Murkongselek–Pasighat new line project

NF Railway says 45% progress has been made in the Murkongselek–Pasighat new line project which is being executed in two phases

The Murkongselek–Pasighat New Line Project of NF Railway (NFR) is a key initiative aimed towards boosting rail connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The 26.15-km project has achieved significant progress and has recorded 45% physical progress as of March 31, 2025, costing approximately Rs 1,252.49 Crore, a release issued by NF Railway CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated.

The project is being executed in two phases — Phase I and Phase II. In Phase I (Murkongselek–Sille, 15.60 km), earthwork is nearing completion as 13.75 lakh cum of 14.16 lakh cum been finished. Also, the substructure and superstructure work of 18 nos. major bridges and 35 nos. of minor bridges are underway, progressing at a rapid pace and to be completed soon.

Ballast supply and track linking are set to begin shortly. The construction of Murkongselek station building is underway and approaching its completion soon.

In Phase II (Sille–Pasighat section, 10.55 km), earthwork of 3.55 lakh cum has been completed out of a total requirement of 6.85 lakh cum. Bridge works and casting activities are ongoing, while land acquisition for the Road over bridge at Pasighat Yard is being expedited through continuous coordination with local authorities.

Despite extended monsoon conditions and local disruptions, construction activities have maintained momentum. NF Railway General Manager, Construction, recently inspected the ongoing works and directed officials to maintain the pace and ensure timely completion of the project, while adhering to quality standards.

The Murkongselek–Pasighat New Line is expected to drive regional economic growth, promote tourism and strengthen national integration by improving accessibility to remote border areas. Indian Railways, through the NF Railways, remains dedicated towards executing this vital infrastructural project with urgency and quality, overcoming both natural and man-made challenges, the release stated.
