GUWAHATI, Nov 22: Samaguri Police have detained a person named Dibyajyoti Saikia alias Dadul for allegedly battering to death a female dog which, he said, had killed “75 chickens” he had reared.
The incident, that took place at Mikirhat Hatigaon in Nagaon‘s Puranigudam yesterday, came to light after the litter of pups whom the mother dog had given birth to only two days ago was seen suckling milk from the dead dam.

Villagers went berserk against Dibyajyoti for killing the innocent creature while women of the village were in tears seeing this. The villagers said the allegations of the accused that the mother dog killed chickens were untrue and that the canine had displayed no such behaviour in the past.

“We have lodged a complaint with the Police and the Forest Department and will see to it that accused Dibyajyoti alias Dadul is punished for the inhuman act,” a villager told News Live yesterday.
