In a massive development, Khairul Islam, declared a foreigner by Morigaon Foreigners’ Tribunal and the order upheld by Gauhati High Court, was arrested by Morigaon Police Wednesday night, a day after News Live broke the news of the High Court rejecting his petition challenging the order.
Although Gauhati High Court had dismissed Khairul’s petition challenging the Morigaon Foreigners’ Tribunal’s order on June 13, 2018, the district administration and police were unaware of the court order and hence no action was taken against him.
And it was only after News Live broke the news about Gauhati High Court rejecting Islam’s challenge and upholding the order of the Foreigners’ Tribunal that police came to know about the developments and finally took him into custody.
